Iowa Lake’s Women’s Basketball Preview

The Iowa Lake’s Women’s basketball team is ready to start their upcoming season. The home opener to begin the conference race will be on Saturday January 23 vs Southeastern Community College.

          The Iowa Lake’s Women’s basketball team is coming off a terrific season going 19-11 last year. Iowa Lake’s last year played really outstanding in their home games going 9-3 in their home games. Iowa Lake’s really did a great job on the offensive side scoring an average of 65 points per game and hopes to build on that success for this season.

          Iowa Lake’s lost a lot of player’s to graduation this year and it will be an all freshmen squad this year with no sophomores. Head coach Ashley Martin said “I really like my team for this year. We will be a very young team but a very talented team.” Our practices are looking better everyday and everyone I feel is buying into are team and wants to be coached. That is what makes coaching fun is when the players want to be coached and asking questions.

          “I expect us to have the same goal and that’s to be on top of the conference standings like we did last year”. I expect Kirkwood Community College and Des Moines Area to be on the top of the conference and I would put are team right there with them. “

          The great players I have seen in practice so far have been Rachel Breck and Tianna Powell Martin added I think they have great leadership value’s to lead are team and they can score from the midrange and out and play good defense as well.

          Page Harvey says “We have a great team this year. I know we have a young team, but the goal remains the same we want to play in the tournament at the end of the year. “We been working hard in practice and we can’t wait for this season to finally get started. “We are all really happy that we get an opportunity to play basketball because of COVID-19.

          Iowa Lake’s is ready to begin their season it has already announced that they get to play in January, and they can’t wait wait after all this time practicing.  At any time the governor could make a move at any point so the women are going to give it there everyday because you never know when the last time you will ever get to put an Iowa Lake’s uniform ever will be. It could be your last time ever playing basketball with an injury or COVID-19. They want it to be the best season yet!
