IOWA LAKE’S WOMEN’S GOLF

Cody Van Den Berg Staff Writer

The Iowa Lake’s women’s golf team played in terrible golf conditions last week. The meet was held at Council Bluffs Iowa. The Lakers would end up finishing in fifth place out of six teams total in the meet.

Leading the way for the lakers was sophomore Erin Baum shooting a 90 and a 86 that was good enough to finish in fourteenth place. “It was hard to get anything going the wind was blowing around 30 miles per hour the greens were hard and slick and the scores showed. When you have wind blowing right in your face and you are trying to focus on hitting your best shot it is very hard to do said head coach Jarvis Weber.”

The forecast of heavy rains and thunderstorms coming in for round two, but the rains stayed away and round two was played but the course greens were still way slow due to the overnight night rains. Entering round two, the Lakers were tied for fourth with Des Moines Area Community College and was tied for fourth, but Iowa Lakes slip to 5th place.

“The next meet we have to do a way better job of adjusting to the weather conditions because the weather is just as bad to the other teams as it is to us Weber said”. We cannot rush any of are shots. We have to take are time every shot and think about the club we are heading, and we might have to go up three clubs to adjust to the wind. We have got to do a better job of knowing are yardages in the weather conditions we played in.

“Erin Baum said it was tough adjusting to the weather conditions as the meet went on. I remember warming up on the round trying to think how many clubs I would have to go up in the wind, but it was hard to tell. When wind is blowing hard on your face when you are trying to tee off you have to make sure your grip is always right and the wind will just take your ball if you don’t have the correct grip and I struggled with that.”

Up next for the Lakers is the TPC deer run golf course in hosted by William Penn University on October 12th and 13th in Silvis Illinois. That meet will wrap up their season for the fall. The next meets after that will be held in the spring.
