On Tuesday the 22nd of August Iowa Lakes Community College started up college classes again on all five campuses. There has been some changes on Campus due to COVID-19.
“As you all know, the emergence of COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our lives, and classes at Iowa Lakes are no exception” Said Val Newhouse President of Iowa Lakes Community College. “Fortunately, the faculty and staff were able to respond quickly and adapt during our spring semester, allowing us to shift many classes online to safely move forward. We appreciate your flexibility and your trust in Iowa Lakes as we navigate through these unprecedented times. Students returning in the fall will encounter some changes to our class formats. In addition to face-to-face and traditional online classes, we’re pleased to launch a virtual course option called LAKER LIVE.”
“COVID has affected all of class.” Said Wesley Moorse a second year in Criminal Justice. “The way that it is delivered is online instead of in person. If I go into the school I wear a mask at all times. Laker live has definitely been something that I have needed to learn and get the hang of but at the end of the day I would rather have this than be exposed to COVID on campus and in class.”
Newhouse later on said, “Iowa Lakes has been working closely with local, state and national public health experts to provide the safest environment for our students and staff. Classroom and lab sections have been arranged to accommodate social distancing guidelines, while developing plans that allow us to resume most activities that enrich your college experience. If the class is small enough to be held at the college with social distance enforced along with face mask and or coverings.”
Moorse later on said, “I do have an in person class but we have yet to start that due to the fact that we don’t know how we can space ourselves out to the six feet apart.”
“We have closed the Campus so only Iowa Lakes students and faculty are allowed in the building. We are hoping that this will keep our numbers low or close to zero. “-Newhouse
