This past summer has been interesting to say the least. Usually summer involves things like having fun with friends or family, going to the movies, or even enjoying a nice swim in your average swimming pool. However, because of what’s going on in our world with COVID-19, this summer involved many things like social distancing, wearing masks, and even having some of our favorite stores and local businesses closed due to COVID-19. A lot of not so good things happened this summer which made a lot of people in my life really mad or disappointed, so that’s when it hit me. I decided to do something very special to cheer everyone up in my life during these hard times. My friends and I decided to combine all of the broadcasting skills I learned last year and all of the amazing skills that my friends learned in college this year to make a video project called the COVID-19 Talk Show.

The whole point of the COVID-19 Talk Show was to talk about what’s going on in the world today with the corona virus while doing it in a positive and fun way. We had many creative ideas when it came to making this project. This entire project took my friends and I more than two months to complete this project. We filmed this project in many different locations and involved a lot of our friends around our community. We called our group of friends the Magenta Floormats. It especially made it easy to contact an who wanted to be involved in our project, because they weren’t attending the high school they were going to.

To talk a little bit about what we did in this project, we did many things like talking about the corona virus itself, doing funny segments with our friends, and especially doing live interviews with our friends to make the video very interesting. One live video we did in particular was our friend from the Netherlands named Ditte Bax. She was a foreign exchange student who came to my school last year, and due to the corona virus her school year was cut short. We had her due a live video of herself from her home in the Netherlands to explain to us about what her life in like in the Netherlands so far with the corona virus around and how she felt about having her school year cut this year due to the corona virus.

Another special part we did in this video was called Trevor Time. The idea of this part of the video was to introduce our friend named Trevor who is probably the most unique friend in our group and used him to do a fun segment called “Fun Things To Do While Being Quarantined” This was probably the longest part of the entire video we did, because we went all over our community to film many different things for this part of the video. We did things like basketball, dodgeball, yoga, just to name a few. This was probably the best part of the video in everyone’s opinion, because we all had a lot of fun shooting it and Trevor was just awesome to work throughout this entire video project.

After doing this project during these hard times this summer, I’ve learned a lot of things. The first thing I learned is that you shouldn’t feel bad or sad about what’s going in our life with the corona virus. We are all in this together and whatever happens during COVID-19, we are not alone. I’ve also learned that I should enjoy the little things in life. It shouldn’t matter if there is a virus or not, nothing should prevent us from enjoying the small things in life, no matter if it is spending time with our friends and family, going on a vacation with our loved ones, or even just doing a fun video like this, we all should enjoy our lives. The corona virus is possibly going to bring a lot of bumps and roadblocks in our way, so it’s better to just continue and live our lives, because you only get one life.
