All good things must come to an end, such as the softball season due to covid-19. Lets catch up with the Head Coach and one of the players,
“Before COVID-19 hit, this season was going great”, said head coach Katie Larson. “We were out to a 3-3 start. In those six games, the Lakers had scored 48 runs (averaging 8 runs per game). They had a .410 batting average with 77 hits, including 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 home runs. They had an impressive .456 on base percentage. Madison Brevik had also pitched the first shut out of the year. Additionally, sophomore, Taylor Beane, was awarded Conference Player of the Week. We were really excited to see what more the girls could do and where this season was going. The NJCAA and the school are still working on these things. Specifically for softball though, we are honoring any scholarship that we had given out for the 2021 season”
“My scholarship has remained unaffected”,Said Freshman Alison Laubenthal.
Larson later on said, “We are just trying to talk to each athlete each week. Checking in on how they are doing at home, how online classes are going, talking about next year and just continuing to build relationships. This situation is not ideal, but the only thing you can control right now is your attitude and actions. So we are choosing to find the positive in our situation and build for the future.”
Laubenthal later on said, “Since I will graduate this May, I have not done too much softball wise, but I am running and cross training on my own.”
“I am so excited for next year’s team! Obviously it is super unfortunate about how this year ended, but that is out of our control. So, we are really looking forward to the athletes that will be coming in mixing with our returners. I think it should make for a really competitive team on the field, as well as good human beings off the field. We have both talented and high character kids for our 2020-2021 roster,” said Larson.
