The Iowa Lake’s wrestling team competed at the Mid-American Center in Council Bluffs. Iowa Lake’s had seven wrestlers that competed. The Laker’s finished 13th as a team with three all Americans led by Matt Jordan a freshman. Matt earned a trip to Saturday’s night championship finals with an OT victory over number three ranked Andres Lucero of North Idaho in the semifinals. On March seventh. Matt started the tournament off Friday morning with a 20-2 Tech fall with win over Dylan Pesock from Mercyhurst CC in a pigtail match. Matt would take third place. “Matt made a commitment when he arrived on campus said coach Cody Alesch that he was all in He wanted to know what he had to do to win a national title.” He ask the staff to redshirt so he could be sure he was ready when the opportunity came he was ready for it”
“Matt Jordan said I am very proud to call myself an all american I tried to get to this level every day in practice and I thank coach cody for pushing me everyday in that wrestling room.”
Denville Dentis also earned his first All American honor by placing 6th at 149 pounds. He would lose his next two matches. He would lose five to three to Champion Cardionte Wilson of Ellsworth to end in 6th place.
The third All American from Iowa Lakes is a freshmen Austin Hinzman at 174 pounds. Austin first win was he got a pin over Brain Torres of Nassau before losing to number three ranked Jayden Smith of NEO. Austin would come back strong for three straight wins which was huge to earn himself AA honors for the first time. Winning by a pinfall over Rodgers of Lackawanna and Klettheimer of North Iowa Community College. Austin Would lose by Fall then injury to get 8th place.
“All seven wrestlers gave it there all said Coach Alesch we gave the Iowa Lake’s fans a lot to cheer about. They fought as hard as they could all weekend and all you can ask for as a coach Alesch mentioned.
