The Iowa Lakes softball team has high expectations this season. They want to put last season behind them after going 17-35 last season. “Lexus Gorospe was a big hitter on the team last year bating 314 for a batting average she got 49 hits and two homeruns said coach Katie Larson. Its good to have her back for her sophomore season. It helps because she can play multiple positions in the infield and she can also pitch as well. Tianna Soto is another great player to have this season she batted 429 last season for her batting average. She had 24 hits and one home run. She plays right field.”
“We graduated a lot of sophomore’s last year in are lineup and we have some good freshmen girls coming to fill in the roles of last year Katie Larson added”. I hope there is more energy on this year’s team because that something we did not do well last season.
“Something we have to do better this season Lexus Gorospe said was not looking for walks a lot of the time we were not aggressive when we are hitting the ball.” To many times last year, we struck out because we were looking to get walked a lot of the time.
Iowa Lakes have seven new freshmen on this year’s team and want to change the energy level of last year’s team. Iowa Lakes also has five returners on last year’s team and want to change it to the winning end this year. Iowa Lakes first game of the year will be on March 5 as they travel to Southeast Community College at Beatrice Nebraska it will be a double header. Iowa Lakes went 5 and 9 at home last season and really want to change that this year because winning your home games is always a big key.
