Lakers Broadcasting gets some updates

Iowa Lakes Community College recently implemented two 80 inch big screen TVs in the gym so audiences and players alike could see just what is being broadcast live during various sporting events.

Jason White, adjunct instructor of ……… for Iowa Lakes, focuses mostly on the TV and Film aspects of the course. He is also the director to all the students participating in broadcasting live events and games. “Five years ago we were still in standard definition,” said White, “we have since obviously upgraded and are HD… Each year we’ve been able to add something to it.”

White goes on to explain some of the new features including instant replay, live graphics, more camera angles, and most recently the TVs. “Some of the students interviewed Troy Larson,” White said, “and he said that the commissioner of the NJCAA [National Junior College Athletic Association] said that he feels that we have the best broadcast in junior college.”

Audiences can now see what is being broadcast live during the game. Here an interview plays online while the halftime show goes on.

Other updates to the booming program White explains, “We have a better editing facility now with the latest version of … Adobe Premiere for editing.”

“These two 80 inch screens that are hanging in the gym where everyone will be able to see the live broadcast,” said White, “People will get to see what we’re actually broadcasting live on Iowalakes.edu and what is later rebroadcasted on MC22 in six states.”

Laker students are praising the latest changes as well. “I think [the TVs] are amazing,” said Mitchell Hagenson, “It makes it a great way for people to check out the game out online at home, during the game, or even just during half time… Plus it also benefits the referees, because in case there is a questionable call or something.”

Kendra Hill said, “I love having the TVs in the gym as it gives the audience something to look at for when we do instant replays of the game.”

It will be exciting to see what additions come next year for the Iowa Lakes Broadcasting department.
