As February wraps up, March is just around the corner. The month March is known for many things like, St. Patrick’s Day, Pi Day, or even March Madness. However, if you were to ask college students, they would probably even say Spring Break. Now to be fair, a lot of students probably haven’t planned on doing anything fun this year for spring break, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go out and do something for this year’s spring break.

Spring Break can mean many things for some people. Most people like to enjoy spending time with loved ones; no matter that being either friends or family. Rylan Mustaine would talk about his plans for spring break and how excited he is looking forward to spending time with his family during spring break.
“I am going to Nashville, Tennessee with my family, because last trip we went on about 2 years ago, we went to Florida, and we had to stop to Nashville for the night,” said Rylan. “We really liked the city and what it had to offer. The towns were awesome to look outside of it, and we really just enjoyed that and we really wanted to explore more parts of it. We plan to go to the Country Music Hall of Fame again, because we kind of rushed through that last time. We plan to research what sporting events are going on down their, because it’s kind of a tradition to go to a sporting event while we go on vacation. And the final thing we plan to do while we are in Nashville is to look up something fun to do while we are their. In the past we’ve done zip lining in Florida and that was really fun to do together as a family. My mom is really the one who likes picking out the fun events when it comes to spending time with one and another on each of our family trips, so I’m really looking forward to that and we are all just really excited to be doing something two years in the making for us.”
Rylan would then give his advice on how people should prepare themselves for a trip similar to his. “Make sure to budget out how much you are going to spend and how much you are going to need. It would really suck to get down to an area and not have money towards the end of the trip, especially for gas, unless you flew. Also depending on what state you are going too, make sure you know what area you are staying at and just to be safe and cautious, because let’s say if you’re going to Florida, make sure that you aren’t being taking advantage of money wise, so be careful with that.”
Now when it comes to people who can’t afford to go home for Spring Break, maybe you could spend time with your friends at the college? But the question is, what could you and your friends possibly do if your the only ones left at the college by yourselves? How about a road trip? Maybe a road trip in particular, let’s say a mission trip? Dalton Johnson, talks about his plans for spring break and what it means for to him personally to go on this trip.
“I am going to Chicago, Illinois with the LakerLife Ministry here in Estherville. We are going to Chicago for a week to be serving in food shelters and in after school programs as well. We will be doing some other fun stuff like enjoying Chicago’s most famous Deep Dish Style Chicago Pizza and going to see the Blue Man Group,” said Dalton. “For me personally for why I’m going on this trip to Chicago is because I feel like it’s a good thing to do. I really feel like it’s going to strengthen my faith and build a bond with those around me. I’ve had the chance to get to know most of the people at LakerLife for awhile now and we’ve been good friends ever since I stared going their, and I think our bonds are going to be strengthened even more, but most importantly I feel like my own personal faith with be strengthened.”
“I would just encourage them to get plugged into their college ministry. Don’t be afraid to just ask like, ‘Hey, you guys going on a mission trip? I would really liked to be involved with that,’ and other stuff like that. They will say yes and really try to get involved. I’ve been on similar trips like these in the past. It’s really just a life changing event. Life really makes you appreciative what you really have. It really feels good that you are helping fellow humans when they are down on their luck, which is the Christian way. We are suppose to love one and another and help those in need.”
When you talk about Spring Break, the word spring can make you think of many things like sunshine, fresh air, the smell of fresh cut grass, etc. When it comes to being an athlete at college that can only mean one thing, Spring Sports. Alexia Kemper, who is a member of the Iowa Lakes Golf Team and Taylor Beane who is a member of Iowa Lakes Softball Team would talk about their trips for both their individual teams, they’re reasons for going, how hard they would have to work to raise money for their trips, and their advice for going on a trip with their teammates.
“We are going a little bit south of Dallas Texas. The Golf Team always plans going on a big spring break trip every year, just to get use to the warmer weather in the spring time and to just get the chance to swing outside as well, ” said Alexia. We’re all really excited for this trip. We plan to just to have fun and play around 18 holes. The coach just puts us into groups and we just take off from their. The beginning of the year we sent out about 20 emails to people that we know that would be willing to donate to our golf fundraiser. That’s where we usually get money from that, and then our goal for that is usually about five-thousand dollars. That’s just usually a portion of our trip. This year we got a chance to go work at the Iowa State football games and raise money through that, and we also did a raffle for our golf club.”
“My advice would be to go out with a group of people that you enjoy being around with whether it’s your friends or your family. It just adds some quality bonding time with them and it creates a lot of memories.”
“We are going to Kissimmee, Florida to play softball. We are going to play like everyday. We are mainly going to get us started for the season to give us a feel of things like different competition,” said Taylor. It’s also good getting out of this weather and coming back possibly with a tan. This just shows that spring time is coming sooner than later, so it’s also good that we get to enjoy some of that weather before we come back to college. We had to do Iowa State fundraisers and plus a online fundraiser. We sent out a video of us like a team and we sent it out to our family and friends allowing us to raise money through that. Our goal was to about $500 a person, so that’s what he had to meet.”
“My advice would be if your stuck in Estherville and your not involved with any extra critical activities or sports or anything like that, I would just try to join something. We don’t have a lot of on-campus activities to do and Estherville is a pretty small town, but if I think you were to join a club or an extra critical activity, it will kind of make your spring break a little better.
So as you can see a lot of activities and trips are being planned for this year’s spring break. It’s just incredible to see what people are doing just for one week. Spring Break is not that far from now. It don’t matter where you’re going or what you’re doing, try to do something fun for this year’s spring break. You only live once, so go out and make everyday count in your life.
