A Thanksgiving Meal for Dorms

Thanksgiving is coming up and this faces students with a tough decision on whether or not they should go home for this holiday. Some students can only afford to go home during Christmas break that is near a month long. For most students staying over Thanksgiving is inevitable and with the holiday the cafeteria is normally not open. Here are some ways to have a Thanksgiving meal that can cover all of those normal meals that are around this time of the year. These recipes will only involve a microwave so that everyone can enjoy these recipes.

One of the main fixings for a Thanksgiving meal is the turkey. Most students would like a slice of turkey on Thanksgiving so what students should do is go to the local stores and check out the turkey options. What you should look for when trying to find a turkey to microwave is a small turkey. Any turkey that usually weighs under six pounds can be microwaved and usually, you want to microwaves at least one minute per half a pound, but students may be looking for something smaller. You may want to just do a turkey breast. When choosing a turkey breast make sure that it is big enough that you want some leftovers. A turkey breast needs to be covered and be covered with butter or olive oil. If you want the turkey to not be completely bland you will probably want to season it with some dried soup or salad mix.

Another crucial part of the Thanksgiving meal is the stuffing. To do this at home in the microwave all you really have to do is follow the recipe on the box to combine the ingredients. You just need to boil the water in the microwave and then put the box mix in the boil. Add some butter and salt to it for taste and then you should be good to go.

Most people usually have a couple of sides with there meal as well. Instant mashed potatoes are always a go-to when you have nothing else. Recently Idahoan instant potatoes has come out with little instant cups for the microwave so just add water and throw it in the microwave and fluff. Another side that you can do is corn which you really only have to add water and butter. Make sure to use a microwave-safe bowl and you can throw that in the microwave for about 10 minutes.

Last but certainly not least you need a dessert. My favorite is snicker salad. Now for this, you will need snickers, green apple, and vanilla pudding. Make the pudding and then combine the ingredients after they have been chopped up and let it sit in the fridge for around an hour. There is a perfect snack for after this huge Thanksgiving meal.

One thing to remember is that most college towns usually have churches in them or VFW’s that will have a Thanksgiving meal. If you want to be with people, but can’t make it home many of these local organizations will have a meal that you can go and share with others. Don’t be afraid to go out and meet new people. But if you want to stay home and enjoy here is a quick way to have a full Thanksgiving meal out of the microwave.
