Laker volleyball sends 2 to all-regional team

One of the biggest honors a student athlete can receive is to be named to the all-regional team. Two members of the Iowa Lakes volleyball team were named to regional teams. Sophomore Faith Marroquin made the all-region XI A second team and freshman Lindsey Jensen’s named to the all-tournament team.

Anchorage Alaska native Marroquin was the libero for 2 years at Iowa Lakes. This season, she played 118 sets and recorded 605 digs. Coach Mike Turnbull was very pleased with the way Marroquin performed this season.

“Faith worked extremely hard this season,” said Turnbull. “She proved to be one of the top liberos in the conference and region. Faith is going to be very difficult to replace next season after she graduates from Iowa Lakes.”

Freshman Lindsey Jensen, who is a local Estherville native, missed the first few games of the season due to an injury. She played 114 sets on the season and racked up 169 kills. Coach Turnbull also offered his praise for Jensen.

“Lindsey is a tough kid and an immediate force as soon as she entered the line up.” Said Turnbull. “We are really hoping she returns for the 2020 season. We plan to use her as a full time defender and passer if she does return.”

Despite the tough season, going 10-30 in Turnbull’s first season as coach, Marroquin and Jensen were honored to make it to the all-regional team this year.
