Performing Arts Center nears completion

The waiting is the hardest part in many instances. After what seems like forever for some, the new performing arts center which is under construction at the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes Community College is nearing its completion.

The building, which was originally scheduled to be completed by January 2019, is set to open by the end of January 2020. According to the executive director of facilities manager at Iowa Lakes, Dee Hiney, the construction dealt with one major setback.

“The project was originally set to be done last January,” said Hiney, “but the construction was majorly delayed due to the rough winter we had last year. We hope to have the Performing Arts Center up and open by the end of this coming January.”

The rough winter of 2018-2019 included several days where the temperature was lower than negative 20 degrees. It also had snowstorms that brought close to a foot of snow at a time. Those conditions forced the construction workers to hold off on continuing.

One person who anxiously awaits the opening of the new Performing Arts Center is Iowa Lakes chorus director Brett Fuelberth.

“It’s really exciting,” said Fuelberth, “we have patiently waited for this building to go up. We will hold various concerts (band and choir) there so it is just really exciting.”
