With the winter months quickly approaching, the Iowa Lakes Men’s Basketball team is readying itself for the 2019-2020 season. A handful of returning sophomores and some new freshmen will band together to put together a successful season. One key player to watch for this season is sophomore Alan Kikwaki.
For some, leaving for college is difficult. And for those, the thought of leaving for college on the other side of the Earth is unthinkable. Kikwaki was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium, which is a little more than a stone’s throw away from Estherville. He was recruited through an agency like many student athletes who come from overseas.
“There were definitely some changes I had to get used to when I came to The United States,” said Kikwaki, “Since I have gotten used to them, I’ve really enjoyed my time at Iowa Lakes.”
Despite the handful of returning sophomores and the experience they bring, Iowa Lakes Men’s Basketball Coach Troy Larson explained that Kikwaki is going to be a key player this season.
“Last season, Alan played a big role when he came off the bench,” said Larson, “so whether he’ll be starting games or being a 6th man, you can expect to feel his presence when he’s in the game.”
After their impressive 22-10 season last year, Kikwaki and the Lakers kick off their season on October 5th in Ames at the JuCo Jamboree
