In this day and age, concern for the environment is growing. Every day on the news you’ll hear someone talking about climate change and saving the Earth. For students at Iowa Lakes Community College with the same concern, the Conservation Club is a good way to get involved.
Iowa Lakes Environmental Studies instructor Drew Howing is at the head of the Conservation Club. Roughly 25 students have joined Howing on field trips and other activities involving the environment.
He gave his thoughts on why he thinks the Conservation Club is so important to him and to the members.
“It is a great club to get plugged into conservation and volunteer your time helping educate and also learning about natural resources,” said Howing, “when we take field trips memories are made that will likely last a lifetime. This club allows us to be connected as a group of conservationists who can help each other learn more about our resources and proper management.”
The scheduling for the club is a little up in the air.
“We try to meet at least once biweekly to go over upcoming activities, field trips or fundraising opportunities,” said Howing, “some parts of the year we meet less and other times we meet every week. It just depends on what is going on.”
For students who are interested in joining the Conservation Club, Mr. Howing is the person to contact.
