Personality Feature Evonne Tomlin

Evonne Tomlin

Evonne Tomlin is far away from home, 868 miles to be exact. There is more to Tomlin though then just being a volleyball player here at Iowa Lakes.

Tomlin was born and raised in Midlothian, Texas just about 26 minutes outside of Dallas, Texas. Midlothian is a town of around 25,000 people in it. Tomlin also stated that the change from Texas to small town Iowa was a noticeable change.

“I went from seeing buildings, stores, and shopping malls to not having very many options here in Estherville.” Said Tomlin.

As Tomlin is very far from her hometown, she says wherever she is that she feels like she is apart of some family. Either that is her own or the family she has here at Iowa Lakes.

“Life has been very busy and fast so keeping family close is very important to me.” Said Tomlin.

Tomlin is a returning sophomore to Iowa Lakes volleyball team. She has been playing the game from the young age of 12. Tomlin was recruited to Iowa Lakes from the previous coach her freshman year.

“I played for coach Hunter’s mom in volleyball club in Highschool. During my senior year I visited Iowa Lakes and fell in love with the small town vibe and the people at Iowa Lakes.” Stated Tomlin.

She credits the closeness at Iowa Lakes to the fact that it is a smaller college, so everyone knows what is going on with each other.

As the volleyball season has already started for Iowa Lakes volleyball under new head coaching, the Lakers may not have had the start to the season that they might have wanted. The Lakers overall are 2-15 on the season, but 1-2 in conference play. Even with this start Tomlin is optimistic about what lies ahead for the team and her goals for them.

“I envision success and a hard work ethic. I want to make it to regional tournament and stay in the tournament as long as possible, which is the main goal for myself and the team. We want to be successful.”

Tomlin and the Lakers will be taking on Missiour Baptist JV on Sept 19th and will finish off the month on a homestand against Iowa Central Community college Sept 25th.
