Iowa Lakes are still looking for their first win of the season after losing to Northeast 3-0.
Iowa Lakes came into the game with a record of 0-9 while Northeast came into the game 4-5.
The Lakers would drop the first game after a close battle early in the match with Northeast, but would eventually fall 16-25. After the first match Northeast came out swinging from the start. The Lakers would try to battle back against the strong start, but couldn’t recover from the streak by Northeast losing 11-25. Once again Northeast started the game fast while the Lakers did make a late match comeback, the damage was already done. The final match score would be 10-25.
Northeast would finish with a .203 kill complication percentage while Iowa Lakes only had a .071. Lindsey Jensen would finish with 5 kills and would lead Iowa Lakes in the kills category. Northeast would limit the Lakers to only 33 serves on the night.
The Lakers has four sophomores returning from last year with an addition of five new freshmen.
Coach Turnbull said that he is proud of the progress that the team has made this offseason but is ready for the team to get their first win.
“We continue to get better every time we step out on the floor but it is time to start stepping up the learning curve. We are into conference play now and we need to improve our communication and stay aggressive the entire match.” Said Turnbull.
Sydney Swanson, a freshman here at Iowa Lakes, also added to Turnbull’s statements saying that they need to stay aggressive.
“Volleyball is a very mental game. If you are down a lot it is hard to come back when you think that you are going to lose.”
Iowa Lakes will face Southwestern on Friday and Saturday in a tournament in Joliet, IL.
